PRESS STATEMENT

Nairobi, March 13, 2005

THE MSF - YELLOW MOVEMENT: SILENT REVOLUTION

ALUTA CONTINUA!!

THE POPULAR MULTI-SECTORAL FORUM ROAD MAP TO A PEOPLE’S CONSTITUTION

We the members of the MSF –Yellow Movement tired of seeing the political class deny Kenyans their sovereign right of making a Constitution today share with you our roadmap to a people driven finalization of the Constitutional Review process.

As the MSF-Yellow Movement we will also hit back to the political class with our own assortment of weapons in order to wrestle the right of constitutional making from a minority that is alienated and blinded by its wealth and state power.

MSF, a legitimate voice of the people of Kenya today in the constitutional debate speaks the language of people with disabilities whose rights to education have been blurred and decimated by the chaos of the amendments to the Lancaster Constitution. We speak the language of women who produce the bulk of our wealth, but whose rights of participation in the allocation of the same wealth has been violated. We speak the language of all religions. We speak the language of hope for the youth. We speak the language of the hawkers who are being denied a chance to earn decent livelihood We speak for the many students expelled from public universities and secondary schools and as such denied their right to education. We speak the sacred language of the people of Kenya acquired through diversity and unity.

For the entire next week we intend to demonstrate to the President, his cabinet and that House of indignity, greed and treachery that as a people we are tired, angry with the delays that they have caused to the enactment of a New Constitution.

The Multi Sectoral Forum will on Tuesday 15th March 2005 have a two hour Interdenominational Prayer Session and Vigil at Kencom starting from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. This is to remind all Kenyans that it is one year from the day the National Constitutional Conference ended at Bomas of Kenya.

On the Wednesday 16th March 2005 we will take siege of Parliament and ensure that there is no business. We shall not let a few crooked legislators mess up our beloved country.

On the Friday 18th March 2005 we urge all Kenyans to attend the funeral of our fallen freedom fighter Bildad Kaggia, the crusader of a people justice.

On the Saturday 19th March 2005, we plan to support Bomas Katiba Watch during the verification of the final Bomas Draft and the public rally at Uhuru Park.

The politicians and their sycophants should know for a fact that what we need at the moment is neither the numerous amendments to the current Constitution but a Referendum Act that will fast ensure Kenyans vote for the Constitution they WANT.

We ask all reform minded parliamentarians, religious leaders and other sectors to join us and mobilize Kenyans to open active resistance to any and all attempts by parliament, the executive or any other person/s who may attempt to delay, scuttle or undermine the people’s will and desire to promulgate a New Constitution and create a new Kenya of prosperity for all.

In pursuing this campaign we are greatly encouraged by the power of a people united against bad leadership and corrupt governance around the world and more specifically by the collapse of the whole government in Lebanon under public pressure and the capitulation by the military-imposed President in Togo Mr. Faure Gnassingibe. . If a president can be forced to capitulate; and if a whole government can collapse under the pressure for accountability and good governance why should Kenyans live with a government that breeds thieves and celebrates serial violators of the rule of law?

Civil society identifies with the family of our fallen hero Bildad Kaggia at this sad moment of grief. We urge all Kenyans to remain steadfast as he did in the face of crude and primitive culture of ‘grabbing’ and disregard of the masses. Time to act is now and the responsibility is individual and lies on each and every Kenyan of goodwill.
