KENYA EXTERNAL SECURITY FILM EMBASSY DEMO
A notable piece of the action at the demonstration that was organised by
KYMS at the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm was the discrete recording of the
demo by the new Kenya External Security Organisation established by Moi to
monitor activities of Kenya opposition in exile.
A known spy at the Embassy was in control of the camera which was mounted
on a tripod stand strategically positioned inside the Kenya Tourist Office
located below the Embassy. The open use of the Tourist Office as a base for
espionage by the Kenyan State is a new development in Stockholm which KYMS
may have to take up with the Swedish government. This is because it is against
diplomatic protocol for a State to conduct acts of espionage in another State
under any circumstance.
If the Embassy wanted to record the demo, it could have done so openly instead
of hiding under the cover of the Tourist Office. Since the illegal activity
was documented by KYMS both on video and still pictures, it forms a basis
upon which a formal complaint can be lodged with the Swedish authorities.
KYMS will continue to organise protest demonstrations at the Embassy as it
becomes necessary. No amount of intimidation will stop the movement from
conducting the struggle from Stockholm.
