LAUNCHING OF FRONT FOR POPULAR CHANGE

We the Front for Popular Change in the Republic of Kenya wish to address the following issues:

  • The National Constitutional Conference crisis emanating from the judicial ruling by Justice Aaron Ringera.
  • The State of insecurity in Kenya and threats of political assassinations or eliminations.
  • The incessant state of hunger and biting poverty across the face of Kenya.
  • The inability of the Government to manage the affairs of the state to the benefit of the people of Kenya.
  • The rising state of nepotism, tribalism and tribal chauvinism as well as the introduction of intellectual genocide (Intarahamwe), through the FM stations.

Kenyans came together in the year 2002 and elected a new government to achieve the following objectives.

  1. To remove dictatorship and instil democracy through a new constitution.
  2. To eliminate mismanagement of public affairs and resources in order to economically empower themselves and chart a new socio-economic order for posterity.
  3. To eliminate tribalism and tribal chauvinism.
  4. To ensure security of persons and property.

Review

Nearly one and a half years later almost all the promises the NARC government made to Kenyans before the last general election have not been fulfilled.

lWhile ignoring the will of the people, the executive arm of government is using the judiciary in frustrating the constitutional review process on which Kenyans have pegged their hope for a better future.

l The executive especially members of the so-called kitchen cabinet have propelled themselves into an insular power centre using ‘‘Wanjiku’’ to do so.

lThe Government is secretly recruiting General Service Unit personnel from one or two ethnic groups from around Mt Kenya in order to cause chaos and insecurity in the country. Indeed, insecurity in Kenya is so heightened that members of the political leadership are feeling under threat of death daily.

lThe clique of politicians in the kitchen cabinet are so set on frustrating every effort for popular change that they prepared to do anything possible including political assassinations and elimination in order to delay the constitutional and political reform process.

lThe Government has failed to overhaul the management of the public service and is retaining the KANU regime strata in toto thus lending credence to the Moi-Kibaki conspiracy.

lCorruption in the government is rampant through parastatals and government procurement agencies at a level even much higher than was witnessed during the KANU regime. The levels of kickbacks are now twice or three times the amount, which were paid to the godfathers of corruption.

We are therefore convinced that at every turn during the past year, and with abundant opportunity to do so, the government has failed to demonstrate the capacity to manage our affairs to the betterment of our people. To this extent, some of the activities of the government are driving this nation to the brink of chaos and turmoil.

Action

We claim for ourselves every single right of a new and progressive constitution that belongs to all freedom men and women of Kenya.

This battle for a new constitution is for all Kenyans and will take no account of ethnic background, color, creed or gender.

Ethnicity is, therefore, not an issue. Indeed ethnicity, like corruption, political assassination and suppression, genocide and human rights’ abuses as well as economic mismanagement are the results of political manipulation and despondency. This futile attempt to impoverish and frustrate the will of the Kenyan people is for the benefit of a very small number of scoundrels masquerading as our saviours.

The objective of ‘‘Project Aaron Ringera’’ is protecting neither the Mount Kenya ethnic communities nor their interests. It is the ultimate shield of the sins committed during the Moi era and those, which are being planned by the Kibaki regime. It is a blatant misuse of the names and legacies of all the freedom fighters for the first and the second liberation. It is a cheap lie. The freedom train has been hijacked and the gravy train unleashed. The Kenyan people are both victim and participant.

The people want political and economic freedom and must get it. We must, therefore, unite as one, against imposed court rulings to forestall our choice of governance. We shall achieve the right to freedom and fairness by sustained persistent, unceasing agitation and hammering at the truth and sacrifice. We do not believe in violence but we do believe in unvanguished spirit of justice that has seen men and women throughout history overcoming great armies.

The enemy of the nation is at the moment triumphant. He is rich. He is powerful military and he is daring. But let it be known that justice and truth are past stars in their causes. Although, our ranks are scattered, we shall re-gather the people of Kenya around the cause of justice revolving on the theme of a new constitutional order as resolved by the Bomas Conference. We shall withstand the pressure of injustice through unity or necessity and purpose. The nation in this hour of great need must sacrifice everything to stop the early worship and advances of Moi-Kibaki dynasty being erected in the midst of our hard won freedom. We must ask all our people wherever they may be to sacrifice reputation, money and life itself at the altar of what is right: ‘‘The enactment of the final draft of the Constitutional Conference at the Bomas of Kenya.’’

For throughout history, no amount of money or notoriety, no promise of wealth or fame is worth the surrender of a people’s right to freedom of choice. Justice and democracy must prevail. Thank God for Dedan Kimathi. Thank God for Ojijo Koteko. Thank God for Waiyaki Wa Hinga. Thank God for all the hallowed who died for freedom.

President Kibaki’s government is trying to hide the truth from the nation in a great many ways;

  • First; by pretending that the Ringera Court ruling was a judicial ruling. It was not. It was a ruling engineered by the executive through the Minister for Justice and Constitutional affairs who is former law partner of Justice Ringera and Kibe Mungai their pupil. It was an insurance policy for self-protection.
  • Second; by pretending that he is not aware of all the machinations of this men in the kitchen cabinet. How can he deliver on the promise of a new constitution by June 1, 2004 when the respondent on behalf of the government in the case filed by Timothy Njoya, Hon. Kiraitu Murungi was celebrating the outcome of the nefarious ruling?

And we wish him to know that we shall

  • Pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, and oppose every foe, to assure the success of freedom, justice and liberty for our country. We must have a new constitution in order to end neo-colonialism in Kenya.

We appeal to people of all walks of life throughout the land to ignore the Ringera ruling. And to all the young men and women, especially the youth whose nostrils are not befouled by greed and snobbery and whose countenance are not defiled by ethnic narrowness; stand up for your rights, prove yourselves worthy of your heritage. Let us open the doors of justice and freedom and close the ones of injustice and economic slavery. Let us rid ourselves away from the economic plunder of our country. Let us join together in the formation today of the Front for Popular Change in order to rid ourselves of another dictatorship in the making.

We call for immediate processing of the Bomas draft. To achieve these ends The Front for Popular Change shall embark on the following tasks;

  • Recruit, with immediate effect, all like-minded Kenyans to join the struggle for the implementation of the Bomas Draft Constitution.
  • Hold a series of rallies countrywide to popularise the Bomas Draft.
  • Publish widely the contents of the Bomas Draft in as many languages of the Kenyan people as possible.
  • The nation’s security organs under the leadership of competent professional personnel must undertake their constitutional duty to provide security to all Kenyans without taking directions from misguided politicians as it happened during the recent General Service Unit pass out parade: ‘‘Fanya Fujo Uone’’.
  • Lobby parliament to pass the Bomas Draft as soon as possible without awaiting the outcome of the Ringera Court process.

Finally, The Front for Popular Change wishes to emphasize that we stand for:

  1. National Unity.
  2. Social and economic Justice.
  3. Rule of Law and good governance through the adoption of the Bomas draft constitution by June 1, 2004.
  4. Security of the Kenyan people and their property.
  5. Freedom, rights and liberties of the individual.
