Retrenched Kenyan Worker Speaks -
May 6th 2003
KSDA has made contact with a retrenched worker resident in the Coastal city of Mombasa who is part of a wider community of 2,000 retrenched workers in Kenya struggling collectively to get their case heard by the new Narc government.  According to reports, the situation is very difficult as the new government is not responding to the plight of the workers who are currently undergoing untold human suffering as a result of loss of income.

Labour Day: Major Issues For Kenyan Workers - May 1

Kenyan Workers are celebrating this year’s Labour Day at a highly disadvantaged position. The celebration comes at a time when the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) with 240,000 members has issued a July strike notice to the newly elected government of the National Rainbow Coalition (Narc). The regime has refused to implement a pay package that the teachers won after they downed their tools in 1998 to demand a pay rise during the dictatorship of Daniel arap Moi. Details

What We Are Not Saying About Self Reward By Kenyan MPs -April 28

A lot has been written and said about the recent hefty pay, allowances and other perks that our legislators awarded themselves. In my view, the salary increases and the Sh. 3.3 million- car ‘grant’ are just the ears of a hippopotamus (or tip of the iceberg, for those socialized in the Western tradition). The real heart of the matter is in the blank cheque they have given themselves in the guise of promoting ‘independence’ of the house, the pensions (not the retired president’s), the mortgage scheme (at 3% p.a when mortal Kenyans are repaying theirs at 22%!) and the Sh. 10 million medical insurance. Let Us Listen To Our Muslim Brothers And Sisters - April 27
I believe that Kenya should be a secular, rather than a theocratic state. I say this as a Kenyan who professes NO RELIGIOUS BELIEF but who simultaneously demands the EQUALITY AND RESPECT of ALL RELIGIONS in Kenya, including the indigenous African ones. Christianity MUST NOT be Kenya's state religion. At the same time, I  would fight tooth and nail any attempt to transform Kenya into an Islamic state. As Kenyans we must very careful about how we deal with our religious differences. Details
