KENYA SOCIAL FORUM IN SWEDEN

(KESOFO-SWEDEN) SET UP

 

The Kenya Social Forum in Sweden (KESOFO-Sweden) was yesterday set up by Kenyans in Stockholm who also elected an Interim committee to run the Forum’s affairs. The Committee was given the immediate task of registering the Forum, setting up a bank account, organizing social activities for Kenyans in Sweden and calling elections within a period of six months. The Interim officials were elected after an exhaustive discussion and adoption of both the Forum’s Constitution and Program.

 

Ms Winnie Mukaru was elected the Forum’s Chairperson while Mr. Daniel Mwaura was elected the Vice chairperson. Okoth Osewe was elected the Secretary, Claus Danielson Vice secretary, Pastor Beatrice Kamau Treasurer, Mr. Silas Kimani Njuguna Vice treasurer, Ms Susan Mukami (Auditor) while Mr. Githuku wa Muirani was elected Assistant auditor.

 

Other Committee members are: Mr. Gerry Changa Midenyo, Mr. Makan Ngatia, Mr. Moses Trubadur, Mrs Serah Nielssen, Mr. Nixon Andu, Mr. Peter Kimani Jr, Mr. William Twitoek, Mr. Sandy and Mr. Richard.

 

After elections, thirteen groups (which will help implement the Forum’s Program) were also set up. These included the Children’s group, Youth group, Women’s group, Parent’s group, Political group, Entertainment group, Religious group, Single’s club, Media group, Budget group among others.

 

Those present registered themselves as members of various groups depending on their interests. The Forum resolved that the different group members would organize independent meetings, begin recruiting immediately, discuss the internal workings of the groups and formulate activities.

 

The new Committee resolved that it would organize the annual grand Kenya Nyama choma Festival on 1st July and utilize the function to introduce KESOFO to Kenyans in Sweden, popularize the Forum’s Program and recruit members to be mobilized in future activities. The Forum supported an initiative by Sandy, a member of the Forum’s Elder’s group, to organize a Kenyan party at Albyskolan in Stockholm on Saturday, June 24th.

 

The Committee also resolved that it will target participation of  KESOFO in the World Social Forum meeting to be held in Kenya in January next year and to begin participation in different Social Forum activities currently taking place in Sweden. Winnie, the Chairperson, was given the task of gathering information about Social Forum activities to enable KESOFO establish how it would play a role in the situation.

 

The Committee decided that it will meet again on Saturday 3rd of June at Tensta Träff to address the immediate tasks facing it including discussions on the planned Grand Nyama choma Festival.
